The photograph has been in my collection for years. Prinsengracht, one of the most painted canals in the world – which is precisely what made me hesitate. I only started when I knew how to escape the obvious.

The answer lies in the water. A red underpainting, a few brushstrokes – and yet exactly that sluggish, dark weight of an Amsterdam canal in backlight. The bridge with all its life stays in the middle ground, almost incidental.

Alternatively, you can purchase a print license for just €19.99. You will receive a high-resolution file that you can have printed at the print shop of your choice. This gives you complete freedom to choose the size (longest side up to about 2 meters) and the material to be printed on.
