A historic moment whose significance is often underestimated. The protests were a direct uprising by civil society against corruption, abuse of power, and the influence of the criminal Kremlin regime.

When we talk about the many people who have died for a free Europe throughout history, the Maidan protesters also belong in this list. Their victory was by no means a foregone conclusion and was paid for with the lives of around a hundred people, who are now remembered as the “Heavenly Hundred.”

It is also noteworthy that this revolution was one of the first major political upheavals to be accompanied by an enormous amount of visual material. Photos and videos not only documented the events in near real time, but also later helped to shed light on the violence and identify the shooters.

For Ukraine, the events of Maidan marked the beginning of a long and difficult journey: the struggle for genuine political independence, democratic structures, and its own future in Europe. Слава Україні!
